Why we made it

Give your kids their roots, wherever they're growing up.

“They love Teta. But they answer her in English.”

That's nobody's fault. It's what happens when life is somewhere else. This book brings the village, the words and Teta's own voice into your child's bedtime, in Montreal, Detroit, London or Paris.

Books instead of screens. A story on your lap, a Lebanese word a night, and Teta's voice at the end. No tablet needed.

Made for your family

Three things make it theirs

Example cover with the name Layan: Layan Visits Teta in Lebanon
1

Their name

On the cover and all through the story, in English and in Arabic script. Not sure how to spell it in Arabic? We'll suggest a spelling.

The girl smiles on the phone at her window
2

Teta's real voice

Teta records a message from her phone. We print it as a QR code on the last page. Scan it, and there she is.

A wooden frame on Teta's wall reads 'your family photo here'
3

Your family on Teta's wall

Send us a family photo and we paint it, in the book's style, into a frame on Teta's wall on page 25.

The illustrated characters are the same in every book. What makes it yours: your child's name, Teta's voice, your family photo and your dedication.

How it works

Three easy steps. Teta only needs her phone.

  1. Name & photo

Type your child's name (and the Arabic spelling, if you have it) and a dedication. Send a family photo now, or by email later.

    2 minutes
  2. Teta records her voice

We email you a link. Teta opens it on her phone, wherever she lives, presses record and talks to your child for up to a minute.

    After you order
  3. We print & ship

You get a digital preview of the whole book. Once you say yes, we print your hardcover and ship it with tracking.

The last page

Press play. It's Teta.

صوت تيتا، جوّا الكتاب

On the last page there's a QR code. Scan it with any phone and your child hears the message their own Teta recorded, just for them. Tonight, next summer, and when they're all grown up.

  • No app for Teta. Just a link that opens in her phone's browser.
  • Up to a minute, in her own words, from Lebanon or anywhere.
  • Link not her thing? Record her on your phone and email us the file.

A real QR code, printed on the last page. (This sample one just opens our website.)

Questions parents ask

Good questions

Teta doesn't really use technology. Can she still record?

Yes. We send you a link; you forward it to her on WhatsApp or by text. She taps it, presses one big record button and talks. No app, no account. If that's still too much, record her on your own phone next time you call or visit, and email us the file.

How much is the book?

$45 USD per book, plus flat shipping. Want all three? All 3 books for $109 instead of $135, until 31 Dec.

When will it arrive?

Every book is made to order at $45. We email you a digital preview of your whole book, usually within a day of your order. Once you approve it, we print your hardcover straight away and ship it with tracking. Delivered in about 7 to 12 days across the US and Canada, once you approve your preview. These are typical times, not guarantees. If anything changes, we'll email you straight away, and you can choose a full refund.

How much Arabic is in it? I don't read Arabic.

Every page has the English line first, then the same line in spoken Lebanese (the way Teta talks, not formal Arabic) in Arabic script. You can read the whole book aloud in English, and Teta, or anyone who reads Arabic, can read the Lebanese. Your child hears both.

What ages is it for?

Ages 2 to 7. Little ones love hearing their name and Teta's voice. Older kids start reading the English on their own and collecting the words for their jar.

Will the child in the pictures look like mine?

No. The illustrations are the same in every book. What makes it yours is your child's name, Teta's real voice, your family photo painted on Teta's wall, and your dedication.

What photo should I send, and can I send it later?

Any clear family photo where faces are easy to see. You can upload it when you order or reply to your order email with it later, any time before your preview. We paint it in the book's style and you'll see it in your preview.

What is the Word Jar kit?

A printable kit (a fold-up paper jar and word cards) that we email with every order. Print it at home, and add one Lebanese word a night, just like in the story. Share yours with #TetasJar.

Can I give it as a gift?

Of course. Grandparents, aunts and godparents order it too. Write the dedication from you, and ship it to any address in the US or Canada. Teta can still record her message from wherever she lives.

Can I change something after I order?

Yes, until you approve your preview. Just reply to your order email.

What if I don't love it?

You're covered twice. First, we email you a full digital preview, usually within a day, and nothing is printed until you approve it. Not in love with it? Reply and we'll refund you in full. Second, if the printed book isn't what you hoped, email us within 30 days of delivery with a photo and a quick note on what wasn't right, and we'll refund you in full. You don't need to send it back. If it arrives damaged or misprinted, we'll reprint it for free, or refund you if you prefer.

Is it religious or political?

No. No religion, no history, no politics. It's about family, food and language, so every Lebanese family can share it.

How are the illustrations made? Are there reviews?

The illustrations are made with digital and AI tools under our art direction, and every page is checked and corrected by hand. There are no reviews yet: this is the very first edition, and you'd be one of our first families.

Hi, I'm Serge. My cousins and friends abroad, in Montreal, London, Paris and Detroit, have kids who adore Teta but answer her in English. I didn't want the words and the little rituals to fade in one generation, and I didn't want the answer to be another app. So I made a book, with Teta's own voice inside.

For your kids, and soon for mine. — Serge
